My mentor Lord “Bill” Deedes

Here’s me with one of the greatest journalists of all time – the late Bill (Lord) Deedes, who kept writing for the Daily Telegraph (which he once edited for more than a decade) until he was in his 90s. He was also a cabinet minister in Harold MacMillan’s government. What a double! Bill was my inspiration as a young journalist in Ashford, Kent, where he was my friend and MP.
