Southern TV

When I was Southern Television’s Kent reporter, I was asked to open an Oxfam shop in Maidstone. To show willing, I bought a suit from the shop for £10 (a reasonable sum back in the mid 1970s!) and for a bet, I told our film crew I’d wear it the very next time I had to do an interview. To my embarrassment it turned out to be Norman St John Stevas (now Baron St John of Fawsley) – then Minister for the Arts!
